Winter Weekends

As everyone is wishing it was Spring or Summer and warm, I’m over here thinking how much I actually like the Winter. I know, I know, I’m probably in the 1% of the Winter lovers population… but let me tell you why. Throughout the rest of the year I’m busy. Not the “fake busy” like I want to sit on the couch and watch movies all night rather than do laundry, but actual –work 8:30-5:00 all week-work all night on editing-scheduling-emailing-and-shooting weddings or portraits on weekends– busy. And believe me when I say, I’m not complaining about my photo jobs because I LOVE THEM… BUT it’s just nice to have a “winter break” for a little bit… not the kind of winter break like you have in college with no work whatsoever, but a more relaxed schedule.

My family has a ski house at Wintergreen Ski Resort and let me tell ya… it’s one of the most relaxing places to be. We have the prettiest view of the mountains with no other houses in sight. Weekends are filled with family and friends who come to Wintergreen for a little “peace” of mind away from their hectic schedules. We play endless games of rummikub and apples to apples, visit Bold Rock Cidery, watch movies… have a grand ol’ time!snow

One of my favorite parts is coming back after skiing all morning, getting in the hot tub with the beautiful view, and reflecting. I admit that sounds corny, and it totally is, but I reallllly do DO THAT!! I sit there and stare out at the clouds and thank my lucky stars (that aren’t actually out yet because it’s only 2pm) that I’m lucky. I’m lucky to be here on this earth, lucky to have an amazing family and support system, lucky to be able to spend my weekends at Wintergreen spending time with my family, lucky to be moving forward in my photography business… you get the idea. It’s nice to be in the silence with my thoughts. (got real deep with you for a minute…)Wintergreen Mountains

Anyways, this season I bought a season pass for skiing and have gone every weekend since the beginning of January. Its been AWESOME! I love skiing!! I started when I was 15, all wobbly and uncoordinated and now I’m 25 and skiing down black diamonds! I’m no Bode Miller, but I do have a great time! This season started pretty warm, but the last couple weekends have been super cold with all this natural snow and it’s been the BEST SKI CONDITIONS ever. I love snow regardless of needing it to ski… it makes me feel like a kid again… watching the news to get the latest info about how many inches we’ll get and waiting patiently for the first flakes to fall.

So, now do you understand why I love Winter? I love snow and skiing and my winter weekends away at Wintergreen. It’s a great place to let me re-group, do a bit of planning, and get myself together before a busy Spring and the “actual busy” weekends ahead.

XOXO
