LIBBY | DUKE SENIOR | JMU | HARRISONBURG, VA

Meet Libby! She’s an ADPi sorority sister, a huge dog lover, a Harry Potter fan, and pursuing a future in law school! When she contacted me, she asked if she could bring her dog, Bonnie, to the shoot. I said, of course!

She and Kelly (remember Kelly?) are best friends and wanted to a few photos together! So sweet!

To make the day more interesting…

While we were walking and talking, Libby mentioned that Bonnie is a great dog but if she ever gets off the leash, she runs away.

SO, thatttt being said… do you see where this is going?

Literally 10 minutes later, we’re taking photos in front of Wilson Hall and we hear Bonnie shake. We look over and Bonnie has shaken off her collar and is standing there just staring at us. Bonnie tilts her head, starts backing up, and Libby says, “Bonnie… stayyyyy” and then….. Bonnie BOLTS down front quad. Libby goes running after her in her wedges and graduation gown yelling, “Stop that dog! Grab her!”… People turn their heads and stare. Bonnie is in a beeline towards a guy and his dog, Libby’s still yelling… “Grab her!!!” the next minute, the guy AND his dog are running after Bonnie! I didn’t know what to do… I had my gear on my back, camera in hand, just hoping that Bonnie would stop and turn around… nope. She kept going. Then, I passed a group of people and one of the guys in a red shirt said, “dang, I feel bad for that girl… that dog is fast” and two seconds later that same guy is sprinting… and I mean SPRINTING down the quad and around the corner. I don’t even know where Libby went! I walked further down the quad and turn the corner and the guy in the red shirt is all out of breath AND holding Bonnie! (Sorry to disappoint… I didn’t get any photos of the shenanigans!) Libby came running, shoes off and gown in hand saying “Ugh, I’m sorry, ugh BONNIE!” Don’t be sorry, girlfriend, this was like scene out of a movie! Insane! We tightened Bonnie’s collar about 5 times and asked a guy who was sitting on the steps if he minded watching Bonnie as we grabbed some photos by the flowering tree!james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photographyjames_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photographyjames_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

Why did you choose to attend James Madison University?:

Honestly, it wasn’t my number one choice but I DID like it. Being a senior now, I’ve come to love JMU over the years and it has become my second home. I know I ended up where I belong.james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

Favorite class?:

It wasn’t really because of the class itself, but last semester I enjoyed a class called State and Local Politics. The professor was the cutest, most hilarious little old man. Everyone loved him!james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld PhotographyLibby-JMU-106_WEB

Favorite Dukes tradition?:

A lot of people streak the quad before they graduate. I haven’t done it… but there’s still time I guess…james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

Just for fun

What kind of music do you like?:

I really love 90s music. I saw the Backstreet Boys a few summers ago and it was like my six year old self’s dream come true.

Name 5 things you couldn’t live without?:

my favorite foods, dogs, Netflix, family, friends

She took me to this super cool flower mural!

What is your dream job?:

I want to be a lawyer. I’m not really sure what kind of law I want to practice yet, but I think it would be cool to be the lawyer for a professional sports team.

People might be surprised to know that…

I have changed my major four times during my time at JMU…I’m a little indecisive but finally have everything figured out.james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld PhotographyWhat are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming year?:

Starting a new chapter in my life. I am excited to take a year off to have some time to figure my life out and apply to law school.

Final words

Advice for incoming freshman or rising seniors?

For freshman, branch out and get involved! Don’t be afraid to get involved in something you wouldn’t normally do because that’s how I met some of my best friends at JMU! For rising seniors, live it up!! Work hard, go out on weekdays, stay up late, work on your resume, and apply for internships/jobs early.james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photographyjames_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

What are your plans for after graduation?:

I’m doing an internship in either Virginia Beach or Northern Virginia, hopefully going on some trips, then taking the year off to prep and apply for law school!

What can you do today that you didn’t think you could do a year ago?

I can say that I am ready to graduate and see what the world has planned for me next, although I will miss JMU and my friends so much!james_madison_university_JMU_Senior_portraits - Brett Denfeld Photography

Yay, Libby! Happy graduation! (I hope Bonnie never gets loose again!)

xoxo,

Brett
